I graduated from Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman University, with a degree in special education. I received an elementary education certificate from NSU and an early childhood certificate from OSU. I taught at The Little Lighthouse in Tulsa for 3 years. I’ve been teaching kindergarten at St. Pius X School for 25 years. I’ve also taken 3 sign language courses from Tulsa Speech and Hearing.
I began my teaching career at St. Pius as the extended kindergarten teacher and after care co-director when kindergarten was still half days. I accepted a full time teaching position in kindergarten when St. Pius began all day kindergarten.
My husband Rick and I are parishioners of St. Pius X Church. Our 2 children, Christina and Matthew, are St. Pius X alumni. Nolan, our grandson, is in kindergarten this year. I have a twin sister who teaches world religion and church history at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis TN.
My hobbies include reading, gardening, and of course babysitting Nolan!
My goal is to have my classroom be a happy and inviting place to learn. The room is organized, functional, and fairly structured. The expectations for the students are clearly presented and reviewed on a consistent basis. Kindergartners want and need structure and are eager to learn how to be a responsible caring classmate. In class, they have weekly and daily “overall jobs” and have many opportunities to practice sharing and caring with others. Our kindergarten curriculum is challenging, and my goal is to help each student meet those challenges to the best of his/her ability. Kindergartners are like “little sponges” soaking up information while constantly observing their classroom surroundings. I try to model and uphold “all things in Christ” for my students daily. It is an honor and a pleasure to be a part of this St. Pius X community!
