Mrs. Newton's Pre-K Class 2019-2020!

Meet the teacher!

I am so excited to be in my 19th year working at St. Pius X! I began as a teacher's aide in Kindergarten, co-taught the 4 year old preschool with Mrs. Debbie Heinrichs, taught the 3 year old program, and now I am back teaching the 4 year olds. I am blessed to have the most wonderful, helpful, caring assistant in Ms. Lisa Bierig.

I am originally from Aberdeen, South Dakota, where I attended Catholic schools from 1st to 12th grade. I moved here when I was 18 to attend the University of Tulsa and majored in Psychology. I have been married for 29 years to my husband Sam, who is a big help in fixing and building things for our classroom. My two children are both St. Pius X and Bishop Kelley graduates. My son Cameron is 26 and lives and works in Tulsa. My daughter Allie is 24 and now works for TPS teaching Kindergarten. We have two very energetic puppies named Riley and Roxie. In my free time, I love to read, watch tons of college football, and spend time with my family.

I love teaching preschool!

Welcome Back to School

We are off to a great start. The kids are learning our routines and getting settled into school. We have made it through our first full week and are getting to know one another. We have a great group of kids and it's going to be an awesome year of learning and fun!
Grandparents Day

One of our first big events of the year was Grandparent's Day. We were so happy to welcome grandparents and other special guests to see our school and to spend time with us.
Fun With Shapes

Here are a few pics of us having fun while learning all about shapes! We made shapes with our bodies in P.E. We made shapes and other artistic creations with shaving cream.
Fire Safety Week
We had a great time learning about fire safety. We learned about 911, Stop Drop and Roll, and Crawl Low Under Smoke. We went on a scavenger hunt around campus to look for safety items (fire alarms, sprinklers, exit signs, hydrants, extinguishers, etc.) We pretended to be fire fighters in our Dramatic Play Center. We also learned to play Duck Duck Goose and enjoyed some fire fighting song videos.
Farm Fun
We had such a fun week learning all about farming! We ended the week by working together to make a class scarecrow.
Miscellaneous Cute Pictures
Stuffing Drive for Catholic Charities
Each class at SPX collected boxes of stuffing for Catholic Charities to give to needy families. The preschoolers learned about helping others and we worked together to count and sort the boxes. Thank you for supporting this service project.
Pumpkin Time
We had an awesome pumpkin week this year, decorating mini pumpkins, examining, measuring, exploring, and tasting pumpkins. And we even made a jack-o-lantern to watch over us at nap time.
Halloween
The kids did an amazing job in the Halloween performance. And we sure enjoyed the cupcakes from Hutson's grandma afterwards!
Pets Week
This is one of my favorite weeks! The kids did an awesome job with their dog drawing and bone decorating. We loved looking at family pet pictures. And we were lucky to meet Lydia's pet guinea pig, Comet, and Mia's pet dog, Reggie. Thanks for sharing!
Singing with Father Bradley!
Teddy Bear Day!
Christmas Fun with Our Buddies
Christmas
Here are some great pics from the Christmas season: acting out the Christmas story, pajama day, all dressed up for our program, listening to a flute concert, visit from our buddies singing Spanish carols, and our class party.
 Happy 100th Day of School
We made crowns, built with 100 things, counted to 100 (of course!) and enjoyed a special snack. We are 100 days smarter!
Chinese New Year
We learned all the traditions of about this special holiday. Since 2020 is the Year of the Rat we even had a visit from the Fielstra family's rats. We ended the week with some parasol dancing to Chinese music.
