Welcome to Mrs. Newton's Class!

I am so excited to be in my 17th year working at St. Pius X! I began as a teacher’s aide in Kindergarten, and loved working in the classroom so much that I got certified to teach Early Childhood.  I co-taught the 4 year old preschool class with Mrs. Debbie Heinrichs, and 9 years ago I was asked to start the 3 year old program. I love the 3 year olds - never a dull moment! I am blessed to have the most wonderful, helpful, caring assistant in Mrs. Lisa Bierig.

I am originally from Aberdeen, South Dakota, where I attended Catholic schools from 1st to 12th grade. I moved here when I was 18 to attend the University of Tulsa and majored in Psychology. I have been married for 27 years to my husband Sam, who is a big help in fixing and building things for our classroom. My two children are both St. Pius X and Bishop Kelley graduates. My son Cameron is 24 and lives and works in Tulsa. My daughter Allie is 22 and a recent graduate of the University of Missouri. She now works for SPX as an aide in Mrs. Heinrichs' 4 year old preschool class and in the after care program as well. We have a very old and spoiled dog named Buddy. In my free time, I love to read, watch tons of college football, and spend time with my family.

I love teaching 3 year olds.  Our classroom is filled with laughter, love, and lots of learning. We learn through play and hands-on activities, and we love to spend time outside. Academics are introduced, but much of our time is spent developing socialization skills, such as sharing, taking turns, listening, and following directions.
Welcome Back to School!

We are off and running in Preschool with 20 awesome kids. Here are some pictures from the first few weeks of school!
Grandparent's Day

We had 27 plus visitors for Grandparent's Day. What a great time!
All Tuckered Out!

Whew, sometimes we get so busy at school that we just need a really good nap. And sometimes it's hard to wake up when nap time is over!
Happy Birthday, Isabelle!

Isabelle turned 4 and brought some yummy cupcakes. The kids just couldn't resist showing off their colored tongues!
Obstacle Course

One of our favorite PE activities is going through the obstacle course. Here are some great pics of us having fun!
Colors and Shapes

We had so much fun learning about colors and shapes. We sorted fruit loops and did a color science experiment. We made shapes with shaving cream and our bodies. We sang the Hokey Pokey Shape Up song.
Farm Fun

We shucked corn and made muddy pigs!
Fire Safety

We had so much fun learning all about fire safety. We practiced crawling low under smoke, Stop Drop and Roll, and 911. And The four year old preschool classes invited us to their firefighter presentation.
Apples!

Here are some fun pictures from our apple week. We tried balancing apples like in the book Ten Apples Up on Top but found that balancing bean bags was much easier. We measured with apples and had an apple tasting feast.
Pumpkins and Halloween

We had a great time learning all about pumpkins-how they grow from seeds to flowering plants to pumpkins. We examined the inside of a pumpkin and made a class jack-o-lantern. We made a yummy pumpkin pudding. During Halloween week we watched the costume parade and attended a singing program. We made banana ghosts and witch hat snacks and sang lots of fun Halloween songs. We played Save the Letters in which we rescued letters caught in a spider web we made from yarn. We capped off the week with Bedlam Dress Day.
Pets, Thanksgiving, Bears, Castles and Fairy Tales

Time for an update, so here is a random assortment of recent pictures.

Feast of the Epiphany

We learned about how the three wise men followed the star and traveled far to bring special gifts to baby Jesus, the newborn king. Then we took turns acting out the story.
