Congratulations to Ms. Therese Iten, St. Pius X Librarian, on winning a 2017 Cox Charities Innovation in Education grant in the amount of $9,982.81 to purchase media enhanced books. Her proposal was selected out of more than 100 applications submitted this year.
The funds from this grant will allow the library to purchase AV2 Books, a line of groundbreaking and innovative media enhanced books. Each book contains supplementary materials that focus on higher level thinking skills with features provided through a safe website that includes audio, visuals, web links, quizzes, key words, slide shows, and interactive activities that help students meet important national curriculum standards from grades K to 8. The books will cover multiple course disciplines such as science, social studies, language arts, visual arts, and biographies. Our students will gain access to a wide variety of up-to-date nonfiction books and activities that that can be utilized in the library, at home, or in the classroom.
According to a statement from Cox Charities, "Ultimately, we were able to fund 13 programs across eight school districts. Congratulations on being one of the funded programs, and thank you for being so committed to your students and the role you help play in improving the quality of life for so many young people in our community!"
